简介

Sometimes called “the poor man’s Bel-Air,” Mt. Washington manages to be both in the city and off the beaten track at the same time. Most motorists speeding north on the Pasadena Freeway have no clue to the charms of the hill to the left of the freeway, or to the northeast of Dodger Stadium. Mt. Washington has much to offer the urban hiker. Follow the historic path of a streetcar line to the old Mt. Washington Hotel, now headquarters for the Self-Realization Fellowship. Wander the mountain’s bucolic lanes, visit a nature preserve (Rainbow Canyon) and that long-standing institution—the Southwest Museum. Like the flat lands surrounding it, Mt. Washington was used for sheep and cattle raising in the 19th century. But some city residents enjoyed hiking and picnicking on its slopes.
