A northern loop of the 23-mile Pinchot Trail System explores the Pocono Plateau, visiting an observation tower and an intriguing spring. Rejoice in pink-and-white splendor when the mountain laurel attains peak bloom in mid- to late June, indulge in the tasty bounty of the area’s highbush blueberries in mid-July to August, or enjoy the fire-blaze of autumncolored leaves in October. 12 miles east of Wilkes-Barre. Special attractions: Observation tower for a Pocono panorama; flowering laurels and grasses; blueberries; mixed-hardwood forest for vibrant autumn color; swamp, meadow, and springs; solitude; wildlife.
