The trail descends 3.200 feet along the south canyon wall via switchbacks to the valley floor. This Was the original route to Glacier Point before the road was built. The Four-Mile Trail begins with views up the east side of the valley towards Little Yosemite Valley, Nevada Fall, Vernal Fall, Liberty Cap, Half Dome, and Tenaya Canyon. Along the trail the views open up to the west, including Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Royal Arches, and the Merced River.
