Get ready for a workout! This sunny hike offers dog and human a fun time on the beach with sights and scents of the sea—a gentle surf, shells, soft paths, a lot of other dogs, and a hike through the largest American holly forest on the East Coast. Nesting shorebirds, such as the federally endangered piping plover and least tern, and black skimmers, return to the area to nest on the beaches and dunes. Although ocean beaches are closed to dogs from March 15 through Labor Day, some birds may be nesting earlier. Stay on the trails. Bayside beaches are open year-round to dogs.
