This eTrail is a detailed description of an adventurous loop through the Grand Canyon backcountry. Here is an excerpt from this eTrail's route description. "There is usually water at the junction of Cottonwood and Tuckup. But not always. We found some pothole water there in the fall of ’88, but in the fall of ’89 there was not even damp sand. In the fall of ’90 there was a small amount—enough for three people for the night. Fortunately, there is a more reliable source in Tuckup Canyon at the top of the Redwall about twenty minutes up Tuckup from the Cottonwood junction. Besides the water we found at the junction in 1988, we found two other prerequisites for a perfect lunch spot—shade and smooth flat rocks. It had taken us more than two hours to get there from where we first reached the bed of Tuckup, and we were ready for a restful lunch. One-and-two-tenths miles below Cottonwood, at approximately the 3,000-foot contour, there is a break in what is left of the Redwall on the east side. It is possible to get up to the Esplanade that way. The route through the Supai takes you diagonally up to the base of the final cliff toward the “3967T” elevation point."
