简介
A hike featuring interesting geology on two of the most scenic trails in Grand Canyon National Park. A steep series of switchbacks descends rapidly through the rim formations to the saddle at the head of Seventyfive Mile Creek. After the confinement of the upper section of the trail, the sudden view to the west is startling. The trail now contours around Escalante and Cardenas Buttes on the gentle slopes of the red Supai sandstone. At the north end of Cardenas Butte, the trail descends abruptly through the Redwall limestone in a series of switchbacks, then works its way through the greenish Muav limestone and greenish-purple Bright Angel shale slopes. Massive fallen blocks of Tapeats sandstone mark the level of the rim of the Granite George in the central Grand Canyon, but here the gorge is replaced by rolling hills.
