简介

At 2764 acres—nearly 660 of them underwater—Pelham Bay Park is one of the largest parks in the city parks system. Once the site of Indian hunting and fishing grounds, the park came into being in 1888 when the city purchased 28 private estates. Formerly an island and now a peninsula, Hunter Island is named after former landowner John Hunter. The hike around Hunter Island is an easy stroll through a scenic area of salt marshes, shoreline, forest, and meadows. Your hound may be interested in taking a dip at several points along the way. Take care to watch for rising tides, deep mud, and the aggressive mosquito population present here in warmer months as you venture out onto Hunter Island.
