简介

A quiet walk in the woods over varied terrain above Pike Creek, just minutes from Newark, Delaware. It would be easy to say there is little notable about this nice ramble on the Chest- nut Hill Trail through woodlands east of Newark, but that would miss the mark. The quiet and solitude offered by this trail is remarkable because the park’s southern edge is adjacent to busy Kirkwood Highway. The Judge Morris Estate forms the southeastern corner of the nationally renowned conservation effort in the White Clay Creek watershed. Since the 1970s, as the population epicenter of New Castle County has shifted from Wilmington to Newark, the collaboration among Delaware, Pennsylvania, and local agencies and nonprofits has created a kind of “Central Park.” The White Clay is designated part of the nation’s Wild and Scenic River system. Hikers interested in a real leg stretcher can depart from the Judge Morris trailhead and walk the Tri Valley Trail into Chester County, Pennsylvania, through woods, meadows, and farm fields —crossing only five roads en route.
